SERMON ON THE MOUNT – PART 5

TREASURE HUNTING

Matthew 6:19-34

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)

1. DO NOT ___________ THE EARTHLY _________________

And not only you, but anyone who sacrifices home, family, fields -whatever- because of me will get it all back a hundred times over, not to mention the considerable bonus of eternal life. Matthew 19:29 (MSG)

2. USE YOUR ___________ FOR ______________ PURPOSES

“Giving up something now for something better later is not a sacrifice. It is an investment”. Andy Stanley

22 Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! Matthew 6:22-23 (NLT)

3. FOCUS YOUR GAZE ON ________________ TREASURES

17 As he went out into the street, a man came running up, greeted Him with great reverence, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to get eternal life?” 18-19 Jesus said, “Why are you calling me good? No one is good, only God. You know the commandments: Don’t murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t cheat, honor your father and mother.” 20 He said, “Teacher, I have – from my youth – kept them all!” 21 Jesus looked him hard in the eye – and loved him! He said, “There’s one thing left: Go sell whatever you own and give it to the poor. All your wealth will then be heavenly wealth. And come follow me.” 22 The man’s face clouded over. This was the last thing he expected to hear, and he walked off with a heavy heart. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and not about to let go. Mark 10:17-22 (MSG)

4. WHAT YOU ________ DETERMINES ______ YOU SEE

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.” Matthew 6:24 (NLT)

5. ____________ OWNS YOU, OR ___________ OWNS YOU?

6. DON’T WORRY, BE ___________________

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Matthew 6:25-26 (NLT)

Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 6:27 (NLT)

“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NNKJV)
