GIFTS OF INSPIRATION
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

“And to another the gift of prophecy…And to another the gift of speaking different kinds of tongues. And to another the gift of interpretation of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:10 (TPT)

• Gift of Prophecy:
a message of encouragement from God, delivered through a human vessel, to another person or persons.

• Gift of Tongues:
the Spirit-energized ability to ___________________ or speak in a language other than your own or one you might have learned in school.

• Gift of Interpretation of Tongues:
the Spirit-empowered ability to translate a public utterance of tongues into the language of the congregation.

1. DON’T CONFUSE THE __________ OF TONGUES AND THE _________________ OF TONGUES:

• Gift of Tongues – refers to one of the ___________________ Gifts of Holy Spirit.

8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 (NKJV)

• Grace of Tongues – describing the grace of tongues for _______________ devotion. This is the Spiritual Prayer Language or Heavenly Language that energizes our ability to pray, worship, give thanks.

14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (NKJV)

2. CONSIDER THESE OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS:
• Is tongues-speaking primarily directed to men or to God?
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:2 NKJV

• Is tongues a form of prayer?
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (NKJV)

• Is tongues also a way to worship and give thanks to God?
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. 1 Corinthians 14:15-17 (NKJV)

• Can a person pray for another person in uninterpreted tongues?

• How might tongues help us in our spiritual battle with demonic forces?
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV)

• If I don’t have the gift of tongues but desire it, what should I do?
I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. 1 Corinthians 14:5 (NKJV)

11 “If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:11-13 (NKJV)
