Our Mission: Leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus

RAHAB – the believing unbeliever
Joshua 2, Joshua 6:16-23

Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have – right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start – comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, “ff you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 (The Message)

“I know the LORD has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror. Joshua 2:9 (NLTJ

No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight a~er hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. Joshua 2:11 (NLTJ

Every ________ to fear is also an opportunity to ______ God.

So the young spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, mother, and brothers – everyone connected with her. They got the whole family out and gave them a place outside the camp of Israel. Joshua 6:23 (MSG)

“By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace” Hebrews 11:31 (NKJVJ

Rahab’s story illustrates that God’s ______ is not limited to your _______

1. GOD _____ THOSE WITH A PAST

For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. 2 Corinthians 7:10 (NLTJ

2. GOD ______ THOSE WITH A PAST

24 So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone. 25 Rahab the prostitute is another example. She was shown to be right with God by her actions when she hid those messengers and sent them safely away by a different road. 26 Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works. James 2:24-26 (NLTJ

3. GOD _______ THOSE WITH A PAST

shame? (Romans 8:1)
hopelessness? (1 Peter 1:3)
self-contempt? (1 John3 :1J
rejection? (1 Peter 2:9)
ostracization? (Eph 2:19)
sin? (1 John 1:19)
chains? (John 8:34-36)
fear? (1 John 4:18)
disqualification? (Col 1:12)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthian5s: 17 (NKJVJ
